|Purpose / Objectives||
1.This project aims to conduct confined trait conversion of event MIR162 and their stack combinations; and
If, for any reason, the regulated conversion trial in the screen house is breached, the DOST-Biosafety Committee, Syngenta IBC, PEQS-BPI Monitoring Lead and the Syngenta Regulatory Affairs Manager, APAC & Philippines will be immediately notified. The trial planting will be immediately terminated. All maize plants will be uprooted, chopped, and disposed of properly in the presence of the Local PQS Monitors or do other necessary measures as recommended by the Regulatory and Biosafety bodies. Outcrossing to cultivated corn varieties is possible. To prevent outcrossing, materials will be grown inside a contained screenhouse. Controlled pollination will be strictly observed. Bagging separately the male and female flowers before pollen shedding will be done. Only the donor plants will be allowed to tassel while the recipient plants will be de-tasseled. After collection of the pollen of the donor plants, the exposed tassel will be immediately bagged. Therefore, the opportunity to outcross to cultivated corn is prevented.
|Conditions for Approval||
All activities shall be conducted inside the Product Development Station of Syngenta Philippines, Inc. located at Conel Road, Purok Neirre, Brgy. San Isidro, General Santos City. The proponent shall adhere as closely as possible to the schedule of activities reflected in the submitted Ganttchart. Any modification in the schedule of activities shall be made with the concurrence of the Syngenta-IBC and the DOST-BC. A biosafety contingency plan shall be submitted before the conduct of the experiment. The proponent shall inform which activities would require the presence of the Syngenta-IBC and the DOST-BC monitors. The proponent shall ensure that only the DOST-BC authorized personnel are allowed inside the experimental facilities; The DOST-BC shall be informed in advance of any visitations by unauthorized persons. The DOST-BC shall be informed immediately of any intrusion by unauthorized persons. The proponent shall ensure that stray animals are excluded from the experimental facilities while tests are being conducted. The proponent shall ensure the security of the trial, the project personnel and the monitors. In case of undue destruction of the experimental materials resulting from unauthorized entryof personnel or breach of containment of the experimental facilities, the proponent must implement measures to prevent the inadvertent escape of any viable material within the facilities. The proponent and the supervising IBC shall be held accountable for the undue destruction of the experimental materials and the consequences that its inadvertent escape may cause to the surrounding environment. The corn grains or any plant part shall not be eaten or fed to humans, wildlife and livestock. All plant and viable materials within the experiment area shall be accounted for. The proponent shall strictly observe proper disposal procedures of all plant materials. Should there be a need to preserve any plant material generated from this experiment for future experiments or subsequent data gathering, a request must be made by the proponent through the IBC, subject to the approval of theDOST-BC. Movement of all viable plant materials shall be done in compliance with all relevant biosafety and phytosanitary requirements of the Philippines. Any additional requirement that the DOST-BC may impose, as necessary, during the duration of the experiment should be complied with. The proponent shall submit through the IBC a terminal report within 90 days after the official completion of the experiment.
