Drought and salinity are the leading abiotic stresses and yield
limiting factors in rice production. This project proposal aims to
evaluate marker-free drought and salinity tolerant transgenic lines
developed by Bioseed Research India, and select best performing
lines for introgression of selected events in elite rice lines of BRP.
The specific objectives is:

Evaluation of transgenic rice lines contained conditions for
drought and salinity tolerance, molecular/morphological/
phenological characterization, and introgression of selected
events in elite lines.

Restricted access and movement of transgenic materials. Storage
of transgenic seeds in dedicated transgenic seed storage and
proper disposition of excess transgenic materials

Handling of transgenic materials like movement and disposal and
other necessary biosafety measures will be observed and
implemented following guidelines set by IRRI’s Biosafety Office
and IRRI’s Stewardship Implementation Team.

Researchers that will be working on the transgenic materials are
required to attend training and orientation on the proper handling
of transgenic materials and will need to pass the Good Laboratory
Practice (GLP) Course. IRRI also implements stewardship
practices that meet Excellence Through Stewardship standards
meant to complement Biosafety.
