Project Information
Reference Number | 2021-0340 |
Project Title | Gene function study of the high outcrossing (HO)-related genes using transgenic approaches and genome editing (GEd) tools (HO Phase III) |
Project Type | Contained Use (Laboratory) |
Status | Ongoing |
Name of Institution | International Rice Research Institute |
Cooperating Institution | N/A |
Supervising IBC | International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) |
Project Leader(s) | Dr. Sung-Ryul Kim |
Experimental Facility/Site | Genetic Transformation Laboratory (GTL), Gene Identification and Validation Laboratory (GIV) and the CL4 glass bays at the International Rice Research Institute. These facilities are dedicated for transgenic research and with the exception of GIV, were previously approved by DOST-BC for use of other transgenic projects. |
Purpose / Objectives | To study molecular mechanism of the long-exserted stigma gene, promoter analysis using GFP and GUS reporter genes, promoter-swapping, and promoter modification experiments will be conducted. In addition, allele replacement of the long-exserted stigma gene will be tried in commercial hybrid parental backgrounds to see the potential values of the GEd products for commercialization in the future. |
Biosafety measures | Appropriate biosafety measures as implemented by IRRI, and the Biosafety measures that will be taken:
Transgenic plants from CL4 will be destroyed after the completion Handling of transgenic materials like movement and disposal and Researchers that will be working on the transgenic materials are
